I'm Marko. I help small business strengthen their brands.
This means many things. I canhelp create your brand from a concept, or just make a logo. We canwork on your business marketing strategy, or design and develop your website. I can help with small one-off projects, or offer a full solution with a bit of everything.
I also do copy writing. I can generally make geek speak easily understandable by any audience. I don't only mean technology – whatever you're geeky about can be made into a conversation with your customers. Fashion, furniture, or coffee. I'm like Wikipedia, but with more sass and whatever personality you pay me to have.
Innovation Interiors moved from a business-to-business wood finishing service to a consumer-facing retail brand. We worked together to create a new identity, branding, web, and showroom presence.
Response to the new branding has been overwhelmingly positive, and the retail side of the business has become the breadwinner of the company.
One of the primary challenges was to convince consumers of the custom options available. Too often customers were responding to a product colour and assume it to be the only, or primary, option. We changed customer perception by placing the focus on the shapes of the product, and building in product education for the user. This not only helps Innovation Interiors upsell higher-end finishes, but it lets consumers get the product they want that suits their home.
Computers come in all shapes and sizes now – from a 27" iMac to a 3.5" iPhone – laptops, iPads and Kindles in between. So if your customer is sharing links at the office, or checking out your hours from the shop around the corner, your website just needs to work.
There's more to social media than buzzwords and hashtags. It means getting out here and finding people in your (real life) community who care and are interested in you.
Designers, we like to go a bit crazy with the colours and the patterns and the thinking outside the box – which can be great – but sometimes we need to moderate ourselves. Corporate and business to business clients have different needs than a florist, a custom wood worker, or a band. Also, we know people use PCs, too.
Your brand is more than a logo: it's how you talk to your customers, how you package your goods and services, it's how you handle your best days and your worst days. When making a brand, the focus should be on a variety of occasions and uses. Real life gets messy outside of the designer's grid.
I'lve worked at PineLake Communications Inc. in Waterloo, Ontario since June 2008. I started as a graphic designer, became the art director and currently I'm working as the Creative Technology Director. More or less that means I'm a really nerdy designer.
The work shown below was created while employed by PineLake. If I've shown it here, I was either the lead designer or the art director for the project. I can't take full credit for the work as everything at PineLake is a team effort.
